Title: Communications Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Director, Communications

Date: March 2024

Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator will work to coordinate and collaborate with the Commonwealth's reporters and producers across print, television, and radio. In order to help build awareness of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's initiatives and impact, the coordinator will help to broaden the overall reach with a broad range of responsibilities that will include creative and strategic partnerships with press and media. This position is designed for someone who is interested in the region's business climate and business leaders, and who is a strong communicator, especially with formal written press releases and statements that focus on a variety of topics, including public policy issues and responses to local and international events.

In this role, the Communications Coordinator will not only coordinate with press and media, they will also work internally across departments. The coordinator will help to manage the press database, respond to media inquiries, draft releases, and assist with special projects as assigned.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and build relationships with press and media
  • Track coverage and mentions across media platforms
  • Collaborate across departments to help build consistent messaging
  • Exhibit understanding of the press and media's coverage of the Greater Boston business community and public policies
  • Maintain the Chamber's press and media database
  • Manage Media Email inbox and respond to all inquiries
  • Support the Communications team as needed
  • Assist with other duties as assigned
 

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in communications, public relations, or media relations
  • Experience with press release drafting and distribution, media relationship management, preferred
  • High attention to detail and superior time management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience using MS Office Suite and other business software tools
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to thrive independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with both peers in a team, as well as with senior level executives
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete projects across potentially competing objectives and timelines
  • Strong workplace ethics and values

Salary: Starts at $50,000

Physical Requirements:

This is a sedentary job by nature but does require travel. Requires being able to sit at a desk and use a computer and phone for most of the day. When traveling, an employee must be mobile enough to get around events and assist with set up and break down including lifting 25lbs or more. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
