Event Description:
Consider the following:
  • Do you work with an organization that vacillates between focusing on cost vs. focusing on quality improvement?
  • Have you worked with a manager who goes back and forth between being directive or participative – giving directives to staff or inviting them to help shape projects?
  • Do you work with a team in which some members focus on getting the work done and others are more interested in building relationships, as a foundation for getting the work done?
  • Are you a parent who fluctuates between tough love and gentle love?
These are all polarities.  We encounter them in organizations, where staff or leaders feel caught between conflicting goals.  We often encounter them in our family, and in teams that we work with.  In health care and other organizations, the attempts to improve quality are seen to drive up cost, so they switch to focusing on managing cost.  How do you attend to both?   How do you help team members and leaders manage this tug of poles?  How do you manage the poles in your own work?

Takeaways:
  1. Learn the Polarity management model and the process to use the model
  2. Apply the model to a specific polarity relating to business or organizations
  3. Understand how to move from “either/or” to “both/and”
  4. Understand how to use this tool to manage change in an organization
